128 players for Battlefield 6, Best Starter Pokémon?

Today: PlayStation Portable could run 33% faster than advertised — Hitman 3 lets you play missions from both previous games in PSVR — What would Bloodborne look like running on the original PlayStation?

Battlefield 6 is soft reboot for 128 players

The latest rumours out of DICE says the next Battlefield will be a soft reboot targeting 128 player maps for maximum carnage.

Modern warfare set to return with next Battlefield

Battlefield 6 is well into development, and will return to a modern setting like the third and fourth Battlefield games. 2016's Battlefield 1 was based on WW1, while Battlefield V was set during WW2.

Last-gen lives on: Battlefield 6 will apparently also appear on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 as well as PC and the next-gen consoles.

Divide and conquer: A second team is working on the current-gen version, which is unlikely to support 128 players. Battlefield 6 is apparently scheduled for release in late 2021.

Overclocked consoles and costly demos

God of War: Chains of Olympus forced Sony to release a firmware update for PlayStation Portable that enabled the CPU to run at 333MHz rather than the typical 222MHz. That meant the game could offer better particle, lighting and shadow effects.

Chains of Olympus released in 2008 for PSP and PS3

However, lots of puzzles, characters, story and even multiplayer options were cut by developer Ready At Dawn due to time constraints. According to one of the developers, a demo for pre-order customers ended up consuming around 40% of the development time!

“Pokémon Starter First Form” tier rankings

The battle of the ages is underway, as the Pokémon community pits starter Pokémon against each other, with no room for evolution.

The original Kanto Pokéball crew still got it

So far, Kanto region starters dominate the tier charts as Squirtle, Bulbasaur and Charmander are all S ranked. Kanto was the first region introduced in the Pokémon series, and it's where Pokémon Red & Blue as well as the original anime starring Ash Ketchum is set.

Iconic starters: Squirtle, Bulbasaur and Charmander are among the most iconic Pokémon alongside Pikachu, who wasn't a starter until Pokémon Yellow, which followed the anime more closely.

I Choose You: If you want to participate, you can register with Tiermaker.com and submit your starter first form and wait for the results to come in. Fans are also expecting the announcement of a Pokémon Diamond & Pearl remake for Switch.

Agonising wait times in Valorant

Several Valorant pros have publicly criticized Riot Games for the long wait times when queueing for ranked matches. Valorant's ranked matchmaking system puts together teams of similarly skilled players to ensure challenging but enjoyable games.

Once you start hitting the top tiers, the matchmaking runs out of steam. Tyson ‘TenZ’ Ngo recently waited hours for a match during a 24-hour stream. Riot Games are “talking about how to fix this,” but can't promise a swift resolution.

IWNL wins Fortnite’s Streamer Bowl II

The second annual Streamer Bowl was held on January 16th and pitted big name streamers, professional athletes and other players against each other through Twitch Rivals.

The winner was Fortnite esports pro IWNL with 3 wins, earning 129 points across 9 matches. The score was actually a tie, but Nevify played one less match and had fewer average eliminations, so the victory went to IWNL.

Which indie developer composed for the original Plants Vs Zombies?

ANSWER: Laura Shigihana!

There's a zombie on your lawn🎵

You might not know her name, but you probably know her voice. She’s the singer from “Everything’s Alright” from To The Moon and “Don’t Forget” from Deltarune Chapter 1. Before making gamers teary-eyed with these classics, she composed music for Plants Vs Zombies, and she’s the reason you got “Zombies On Your Lawn” stuck in your head.

Alongside composing music, she has also created the adventure game Rakuen about a hospitalized boy and his mother exploring a fantasy world. It earned a place on Polygon’s best games of 2017 list, so it might be worth a gander.
