Assassin's Creed Reveal

Ubisoft teasing new Assassin’s Creed with real-time artwork creation stream

Ubisoft has started revealing the next Assassin’s Creed game on their Twitch account, and the first live broadcast shows a piece of artwork being created in Photoshop.

There have been rumours for a long time that the next Assassin’s Creed will involve Vikings and their invasions and settlements in various parts of Europe. To back it up, Ubisoft has been flashing the odd bit of Norse iconography.

More RPG elements: Many of the new features from Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey will return, including the choice of a male or female lead. There are also rumours of romances and even greater emphasis on RPG elements such as choices that determine how the story unfolds.

Definitely Photoshopped: The live stream is currently showing an artist creating the scenic background behind a silhouetted figure, presumably the titular assassin. Music tracks from the series have accompanied the stream.

Daily Fact

Dad, why did you name me Turok?

The 2002 first-person shooter Turok: Evolution for GameCube, PlayStation 2 and Xbox had everything: wormholes, dinosaurs, reptilian humanoids – and a truly memorable marketing stunt from publisher Acclaim.

Change your legal name to Turok, and receive $766 plus an Xbox Console. Not bad, but if you really love dino-hunting Native Americans and had your first child on the game’s launch date – September 1st – then you could go whole hog: Name your tyke Turok and receive $10,000 in savings bonds. Totally worth the kid being bullied the rest of his or her life, right?

Battlefront 2 Final Update

Vision for Star Wars Battlefront II completed by The Battle on Scarif

EA DICE is wrapping up both Battlefield V and Star Wars Battlefront II and will start focusing all their efforts on Battlefield 6, which is expected to hit the market in 2021.

The Battlefield V content updates added iconic and infamous battles World War 2, while the Star Wars Battlefront II updates made drastic changes to a game that saw a lukewarm initial reception but managed to win back fans’ hearts.

All as foreseen: “While the studio’s vision for Star Wars Battlefront II is now complete with this week’s The Battle on Scarif Update, the servers, in-game challenges, recurring events and game support will continue as the game lives on with players and the community,” said DICE. “Longer term, the studio is focused on the future of Battlefield that we’ll be bringing to players in 2021.”

One last stand: DICE has added 25 updates to Battlefront II, and Battle of Scarif is the last one. Scarif was where the rebels stole the original Death Star plans, as portrayed in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Quiz Answer - Did You Get It Right?

Which Australian band contributed to Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate?

Answer: Tripod!

Heard of Tripod? They’re a comedy rock trio known for their “songs in an hour” challenge on Triple J radio.

The challenge is to compose an entire song based on topics decided by the hosts – in an hour. The band members are also huge nerds, writing songs about video games, D&D, and Star Wars.

Austin Wintory first collaborated with the group for This Gaming Life, an orchestral comedy show celebrating videogames. When Wintory was hired to work on Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, he asked the band to help him write and perform the game’s murder ballads like “Jokes, Jokes, Jokes” and “Feasting on a Lord”. Syndicate might not be the most popular entry in the series, but at least it’s got catchy tunes like “Give Me the Cure”.

Today’s issue of DailyBits was written by Gavin Herman, Simon Priest, Erlend Grefsrud, and Jamie Davey.
