Baldur’s Gate 3 Delay, FIFA 21 Rejects Authenticity

TODAY: The Force Unleashed II let you play as a certain mighty pirate — FIFA 21 may be realistic, but not realistic enough to simulate COVID-19 — Project Xcloud becomes part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate in September

Larian promises Baldur’s Gate 3 date

Baldur’s Gate 3’s planned early access period won’t start this month after all, but Larian promises to announce launch date soon.

Larian will broadcast a live stream at 10:00am PST on August 18th: “We’ll be announcing the release date, as well as big news on the Panel From Hell alongside @geoffkeighley, @LarAtLarian and the Larian crew.”

Later access: The Panel From Hell will feature Geoff Keighley and Larian founder Swen Vincke along with members of the development team. Baldur’s Gate series takes place in the Forgotten Realms universe, which was started by BioWare in 1998, followed by a sequel in September 2000.

Date soon: Baldur’s Gate 3 was announced at PAX East 2020, is based on the fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons rules and features a turn-based combat similar to Larian’s own Divinity: Original Sin rather than the hybrid real-time system from the first two games.

What caused the infamous Red Ring of Death fault in Xbox 360 consoles ?

  • Overheating
  • Hardware Failure
  • An unplugged cable
  • Any of the Above

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II rewards you for monkeying around

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II encourages destruction and mayhem with its ridiculously over-the-top force powers. It was one of the last Star Wars games developed by LucasArts, and featured an Easter egg referencing another one of their legendary series: Monkey Island.

About three-quarters of the way through the casino environment in the second level, there’s a holographic projection of Jabba the Hutt. If you destroy the three slot machines in front of it, you’ll earn a red holocron containing the Guybrush Threepkiller costume.

No trace of COVID-19 in FIFA 21

EA Sports games are all about authenticity, featuring licensed teams and player likenessses – but even their hunger for realism has limits.

Sports tournaments around the world are held in empty stadiums, and televised football matches feature computer-generated cheering crowds to simulate the noise and bustle of a real audience.

Semi-authentic: FIFA 21 seems to be taking place in an alternate universe free of COVID-19 where no-one wears masks. “Obviously every year we set out to recreate the most authentic football experience that we can make,” said producer Lonel Stanescu. “So for us, that means football with crowds in the stadium, because that’s what it’s all about when playing this beautiful sport.”

Make love, not VAR: There won’t be any video assistant referee system either, since the simulation is perfectly aware of when a player has committed a foul and who last touched the ball before a goal. “That that doesn’t mean that is not coming in the future though, is just at the moment there there are no plans to put it in 21,” added gameplay lead Sam Rivera.

What caused the infamous Red Ring of Death fault in Xbox 360 consoles ?

Answer: Any of the Above!

Xbox 360 well and truly established Microsoft as a major player in the games industry – but also suffered from the catastrophic red ring of death.

The red ring of death meant that your Xbox 360 could not boot, making the console a rather expensive doorstop. Around one-third of Xbox 360 consoles suffered from red ring failures, which could be caused by a number of hardware faults, including solder that couldn’t stand the heat.

Microsoft used lead-free solder in Xbox 360, which saved a bit of money in manufacturing – but the solder turned brittle when exposed to heat and eventually broke, disconnecting pins and wires. The only way to avoid the dreaded red ring was to play for short periods and let the hardware cool down between sessions.
