Breath of the Wild in 8K with Ray Tracing

Ever wondered what The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild would look like with ray-traced lighting and 8K resolution? Well, wonder no more, because this is what it looks like.

Korok Forest in 8K with Ray Tracing

As always, there are rumours that Nintendo is planning to release a new Switch model supporting 4K resolution, and the Wii U emulator CEMU allows crafty fans to beef up cross-platform games like Breath of the Wild to see what they look like on more powerful hardware.

Breathtaking: The gameplay footage starts out in the Korok Forest, before proceeding to Hyrule field. The lighting is noticeably more vivid and realistic, and the eye-bleeding resolution reveals the full glory of the game world – although there are some blemishes that would otherwise be hidden by the lower resolution, such as shimmering z-fighting on distant objects, as well as pop-in.

What’s the name of the plague ravaging the world in Deus Ex?

a) Corona
b) The Gray Death
c) Plague 51
d) Aw Geez My Bones Fell Out (AGMBFO for short)

Back to the future … we think?

The Grand Theft Auto series has become famous for its grand period pieces, but Grand Theft Auto 2 actually takes place in some kind of science-fiction dystopia, but it’s not exactly clear when. On one hand, the game implies that the year is 2013, but Head Radio host Johnny Riccaro says “the millennium is coming” on his show.

Grand Theft Auto 2 launched in October 1999

The ambiguity is probably intentional, since the city that Grand Theft Auto 2 takes place in is called Anywhere, USA. You get a few glimpses of this world in the 8-minute long short opening the game, the only live-action feature ever shot by Rockstar for the Grand Theft Auto series.

Mech shooter GALAHAD 3093 open beta

If you like your shooters set in the future and full of shiny mecha, then Galahad 3093 deserves your full attention. The open beta starts this weekend and lasts until March 28th.

Choose your Knight and customise your Lancer

The game is based on Arthurian legends (hence the name Galahad 3093), and sees you pick one of the knights of the round table and take control of their Lances, a collection of menacing war machines that can be customized for maximum destructive potential.

Cyberstrike 3: Galahad 3093 is a spiritual successor to the CyberStrike series according to David Whatley of developer Simutronics. The game has been in development for a while, but was shelved when Hawken become a hit in 2012 for fear of being stomped by the incumbent mech multiplayer champion.

Futureproof: Starting this weekend, you can opt into the open beta, the game's biggest test so far. Earlier beta tests have been limited to single weekends, but the studio is ready to go big this time.

Microsoft leaks Necromunda: Hired Gun

Necromunda: Hired Gun appeared a bit early on the Microsoft Store, revealing that Focus Home Interactive is gearing up to launch a new shooter set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

Necromunda: Hired Gun is made by an indie studio

The listing is already gone, but not before ardent fans harvested every detail they could get their hands on. Necromunda: Hired Gun is scheduled to release on June 1st, and is a fast-paced first-person shooter featuring “endless weapon and augment customisation”.

Bounty hunter: You won't be going at it alone either: Your “loyal cyber-mastiff” will keep you company as you hunt marks and collect bounties. Expect sadistic gangers, wicked mutants and lots of mobility thanks to parkour abilities and a grappling hook.

XBX optimised: Pre-orders will be awarded with the Hunter's Bounty DLC pack, which includes the typical bundle of promotional goodies like bonus weapons and cosmetic outfits. Necromunda: Hired Gun also supports Smart Delivery, and is optimized for Xbox Series X/S.

What’s the name of the plague ravaging the world in Deus Ex?

ANSWER: The Gray Death!

The US not dealing with a pandemic properly? What’s the odds of that happening?

Deus Ex is a heady melange of conspiracy theories, and has proven remarkably prescient. For example, Grey Death – the pandemic wreaking havoc on the world’s population – allows the Majestic 12 to claim ultimate power through their control of the biotechnology company VersaLife, which makes the vaccine Ambrosia.

Of course, that’s only one part of the vast swathe of conspiracies in Deus Ex. The Illuminati is hiding in the shadows, and there are aliens a-plenty in Area 51. Let’s hope we get COVID-19 under control before the aliens start their invasion.
