Crystal Dynamics helping reboot Perfect Dark

Today: Epic surrenders to Apple, but Fortnite won’t be back on App Store any time soon — Amazon’s MMO New World is finally out for PC this week — Hideki Kamiya apologizes for silence on Bayonetta 3

Microsoft is rebooting Perfect Dark

Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics is partnering with The Initiative to bring back Rare's classic science-fiction espionage thriller Perfect Dark.

Crystal Dynamics will keep working on Tomb Raider and The Avengers, and is apparently already working on the next Tomb Raider which will continue the story from the recently concluded rebooted trilogy.

  • Perfect Dark launched on Nintendo 64 in May 2000
  • Joanna Dark's last outing was Perfect Dark Zero for Xbox 360
  • Perfect Dark was remastered for Xbox 360 in 2010

Third-party: Xbox Game Studios is no stranger to working with external partners: Age of Empires IV is a joint effort between Microsoft's own World's Edge studio and Sega's Relic Entertainment.

Xbox "exclusive": Perfect Dark is in development for Xbox Series X/S and PC, and will launch on Game Pass. No date has been announced, but it seems reasonable to assume the new Perfect Dark will be out before 2023.

Fornite remains blacklisted from iOS

Apple satirised as ‘Big Brother’ from Nineteen Eighty-Four

The legal kerfuffle between Epic Games and Apple has finally come to an end, and Epic was found to have breached Apple's terms of service, and that means it is up to Apple to decide whether or not Fortnite is allowed on the App Store.

Apple stated that they “would welcome Fornite” back if Epic would follow the App Store terms of service, and Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney promised to be a good boy.

No appeals: That's not good enough for Apple's lawyers, however: Apple “will not consider any further requests for reinstatement until the district court’s judgment becomes final and non-appealable.”

Five-year wait: Reaching a final and non-appealable verdict could take as long as five years, according to Sweeney. That means Fornite has effectively been “blacklisted from the Apple ecosystem” unless Apple decides to show mercy.

Which version of Windows was the first to bundle in Minesweeper?

How Minesweeper looked on Windows 3.1

ANSWER: Windows 3.1!

If you had a computer in the early 90s, you probably played Microsoft Minesweeper. The game has been bundled with Windows since version 3.1, but Microsoft didn't actually invent Minesweeper. The first variants of the game were developed in the 60s and 70s for mainframe computers, and home computer versions became popular in the 80s.

Minesweeper as we know it was developed for the Microsoft Entertainment Pack, a collection of small games designed to be played at lunch breaks. The pack was a resounding success in the early 90s, and games from the collection either stayed on the market (like WinChess and Taipei) or were bundled with Windows like FreeCell. When will Minesweeper be remastered for Xbox Series X/S?
