CyberPowerPC unveil its Kinetic Series PC case design at CES 2022

CyberPowerPC’s Kinetic Series Chassis

The Consumer Electronics Show 2022 is currently underway in Las Vegas, and the “most influential tech event” in the world will not let a pandemic steal its thunder. While the show features everything from space technology to robot cats, there is also some hot gaming gear on display.

The CyberPowerPC Kinetic series is a cutting-edge desktop computer case “deeply inspired by Kinetic Architecture,” where the structure is not rigid but actually moves and changes shape depending on the situation, which CyberPowerPC promises is “not just for design’s sake, but with purpose.”

Real-time: The front of the case is made from segmented modules that can contract or spread to increase or decrease the airflow based on real-time readings of the system temperature.

Smart flow: The design displayed at the show has a Deus Ex vibe to it, and features 18 individually controlled vents that contract and expand to optimize the case's internal temperature. Undeniably cool, but is it really that much more helpful than fans with variable speed?

Ubisoft+ is headed to Xbox, offering access to over a hundred Ubisoft games for a monthly subscription fee.

EA launched EA Play in 2014 for Xbox One, with Origin Access offering a similar service on PC starting in 2016. EA Play is also available as part of the Xbox Game Pass, which could mean Ubisoft is looking to hop on the Game Pass bandwagon.

Day One on Game Pass: In any case, Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Extraction will launch on both Xbox and PC Game Pass on January 20th. The question is how many different publisher-specific subscription services the market can bear before fragmentation and competition weaken their value propositions.

Aliens: “We’re demonstrating that we believe in the value and choice that game subscriptions offer to players,” said Ubisoft’s Chris Early. Rainbow Six Extraction is a Rainbow Six Siege spin-off where players team up to fight an alien menace known as the Archaeans.

Yearly UK game sales hit £4 billion again with Nintendo Switch still strong in Japan

Nintendo Switch on Japanese retail shelves

Videogame sales in the UK reached £4.29 billion in 2021, meaning videogame revenues have doubled in the last decade. 2020 was the best year on record for games in the UK, reaching £4.34 billion thanks to the COVID-19 lockdown measures.

Switch sales: The Nintendo Switch is dominating the console hardware market in Japan, selling 5.3 million units in 2021 across the standard, OLED, and Lite models. That's 5 times as many as all the other consoles sold combined.

Console wars: PlayStation 5 was the second-biggest seller at 942,798 units, nearly 10 times the 95,598 that Xbox Series X/S shifted. Even the PlayStation 4 outsold the new Xbox consoles, although Microsoft managed to outsell Nintendo's 3DS, which managed just 28,224 sales.

When was Among Us released?

The various crewmates in Among Us

ANSWER: 2018!

Among Us didn't hit its stride until 2020, but it launched all the way back in 2018. Developed by Innersloth, most famous for publishing the Henry Stickmin games, Among Us enjoyed modest success until suddenly growing into a world-conquering phenomenon during the COVID-19 lockdowns.

Among Us became so popular that it has headlined The Game Awards for the last two years, and turned “sus” into the word on everybody's lips. Now the big question is whether the game can make the transition to VR…

Will E3 ever be the same again? As famously said by Leonard Nimoy, it's dead Jim. It's a good thing that we have the Summer Games Fest coming. Enjoy the weekend, Folks!
