Fan builds own handheld GameCube

A working ‘GameCube portable’ by GingerOfOz

Remember the faintly ridiculous and really rather obviously fake portable GameCube render that floated around the internet 15 years ago? Enterprising Nintendo fan GingerOfOz decided to make it real.

The handheld is based on Wii hardware because it has flawless backward compatibility and a suitable disc reader, and thus a decade-and-a-half old forgery has become real.

Wii-powered: That means the device is technically a portable Wii rather than a GameCube, but the input is designed to emulate the GameCube rather than the Wii's motion controls.

Staying true: According to the making-of video, GingerOfOz tried his very best to stay true to the fake design, designing a custom hinge and even patched the Wii system software to display the iconic GameCube boot screen.

Whose theme in Cave Story is inspired by Finnish dance music?

Jenka asks the player to find her dogs in Cave Story+

ANSWER: Jenka!

Cave Story is one of the most important indie games ever made, convincing literally thousands of developers that they could make their Metroidvania dream come true. But it also draws influences from unexpected places, like northern European dance.

When you enter old lady Jenka's home, her theme might sound familiar. That's because it's based on Letkajenkka, a Finnish dance that was popular in the 60s. The dance is similar to the bunny hop, which is fitting since you're trying to help Mimigas who look rather like rabbits.
