After camp comes horror in The Quarry

The Quarry artwork

Supermassive Games' new horror game The Quarry follows nine teenage counsellors after summer camp is over and all the kids have gone home.

The cast includes David Arquette from the classic Scream horror series, and all nine teenagers are playable with their fates resting in your hopefully not too sweaty or shaky hands.

Nine victims: You will be "hunted by blood-drenched locals and something far more sinister" lurking around the camp as you navigate the “tangled web of possibilities” and maybe even survive.

Horror vet: Supermassive has been making horror games for a while now, and both Until Dawn and Dark Pictures Anthology have followed the same template, so you know more or less what to expect. The Quarry will be out for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox on June 10th.

Dive into Submerged: Hidden Depths

Take a relaxing adventure into the world of Submerged: Hidden Depths

Submerged: Hidden Depths launched as a Stadia exclusive in 2020, and is now coming to more platforms. A lot has changed in the games business since the first Submerged game launched in 2015, and we talked to Uppercut Games founder Ed Orman about the new game, its legacy and the challenges of a shifting industry.

Building a legacy: Submerged: Hidden Depths builds on feedback from the first game, and is a much, much bigger experience as a result.

  • "People really love the relaxing atmosphere and the chance to just interact in a way where they know they can't fail. People really, really got into that in the first game. But the main thing that people really asked for was more to do. Not only is this a massive graphical improvement… but we also just increase the complexity of the number of things you can interact with."
  • The puzzles are more complex and the scope of the game is significantly expanded

A relevant, but hopeful world: One of the big themes of Submerged is the question of what it means to have hope in a seemingly broken world

  • "This city was populated after the apocalypse – the city was populated again by villages, but they've all disappeared too. And so that leaves all of these structures on top of structures, and all of those areas the player can now explore are opportunities for us to feed them pieces of story or put into collectible that is a natural progression"
  • "I do think – despite the risen sea levels and the destruction that's happened here, and the mystery of exactly what caused all of that – these kids are trying to improve the world. They're trying to create a place for themselves to live. So yeah, I do think it is hopeful."

Art is never finished: Plenty has changed for the studio since Submerged: Hidden Depths launched on Stadia, which has only made the game and its themes more relevant to its creators.

  • "December 20th was when it came out on stadia and, boy, what a ride it has been since then. you know, I think from a gameplay perspective, I actually feel like this game is kind of perfect for the times"
  • "I think at first blush, some people can look at it and think it's uncharted or something like that. But it is not their game. It is closer to a hidden object game than anything else. But the point of it is to create a relaxing space for people. And I kind of feel like that's something that everybody could maybe use right now"

Finally, we asked Ed Orman to pitch the game to someone who have never heard about it. Why should someone play Submerged: Hidden Depths? "If they are looking for a beautiful escape, if they would like to go to a place that they can explore at their leisure… a true open world – a relaxing open experience? Submerged: Hidden Depths is for them."

You can pick up Submerged: Hidden Depths on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Stadia right now.

What kind of tattoo does the character Eve have in Her Story?

Eve talks to the police in Her Story

ANSWER: A Snake and an Apple!

Her Story is a game best played with a notepad by your side. Taking notes both gets you in that investigator mindset and helps you piece things together while you study the footage. If you make an effort to jot down every detail, you'll notice little details that might otherwise pass you by – such as Eve's tattoo in the Eve and Hannah footage.

Eve, appropriately, has a tattoo of an apple and a snake, and it turns out to be a clue to figure out the circumstances of Simon's disappearance. We won't spoil the solution to the mystery, we just strongly suggest you play the game and try to solve it yourself.
