US legislation targets scalpers with bots

Jim Carry in How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Supply and demand are the cornerstones of any economy, and US lawmakers are finally looking to make it illegal for scalpers to use bots to buy up stock for resale.

The Stopping Grinch Bots Act aims to curtail the market-distorting practices that have plagued particularly consumer electronics and digital goods recently, leading to situations like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S shortages as well as the ridiculous markups on graphics cards.

Price gouge: The act is targeting bots that “quickly buy up whole inventories of popular holiday toys and resell them to parents at higher prices,”, hence the allusion to Doctor Seuss' mean, green Christmas hater.

Back again: The bill is a modified version of a proposal first introduced and then promptly forgotten in 2019, but the global semiconductor shortages have made it relevant again.

What tarot card does Rose represent in Where The Water Tastes Like Wine?

Rose in Where the Water Tastes Like Wine, asking the player to tell a hopeful story.

ANSWER: The High Priestess!

There's literally nothing else like Where the Water Tastes Like Wine, which necessarily means it's not for everyone: A mix of mystical Americana and the harsh reality of the Great Depression isn't typical videogaming fare. One slightly familiar element is the Tarot, which sets up meetings between different characters and explains why there's a hippie named Rose bouncing around in the 30s.

The High Priestess card represents the future, and that's where Rose comes from. She shares tales of life in the 60s, and her theme tune is a psychedelic rock song that stands out against the more period-appropriate library of the soundtrack. Why does time even matter when you're looking for Big Rock Candy Mountain?
