Daily Fact

Family first, consequences be damned

We’ve all got some guilty pleasures, for example a game with astonishingly bad voice work – you know, hilariously bad. The English localisation of Idea Factory’s tactical RPG Chaos Wars for PlayStation 2 could well be your new favorite guilty pleasure.

And how did the voice-over turn out so spectacularly awful? Nepotism, apparently! O~3 Entertainment’s CEO just hired a bunch of family members to record the lines, and didn’t bother to contract any professionals. All the voice actors in the credits share the same surname: Jelinek

Sony and Microsoft Talk COVID-19

Sony and Microsoft talks COVID-19

Both Sony and Microsoft have just released statements about the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on their businesses, and what it means for various schedules.

Neither company have announced any major delays yet, and titles like 343 Industries’ Halo Infinite remains on track for release in Holiday 2020.

Sony and PlayStation: The company extends “condolences to the families” of those who’ve lost loved ones during the outbreak, and commit to “ensuring the safety of its employees” by enforcing remote work. They claim there will be “no material impact” on their financial results this fiscal year, but they are “carefully monitoring the risk of delays” to schedules at first-party and partner studios. Read the rest of Sony’s statement here.

Microsoft and Xbox: Acknowledge the importance of games “during times of social distancing,” and underscores that their teams’ welfare is paramount. Each studio is “facing unique challenges and constraints” and Microsoft is supporting their local efforts. 343 Industries acknowledges the situation “may get worse before it gets better.” Read the rest of Microsoft’s statement here.

Quiz Answer - Did You Get It Right?

What series was Media Molecule working on before creating Dreams?

Answer: LittleBigPlanet!

“Play, Create, Share and Please Stop Drawing Rude Body Parts!”

Long before Dreams allowed people to recreate the stairway dance scene from Joker, Media Molecule created LittleBigPlanet, which was all about building platform game levels. Later entries in the series developed the tools even further, and before long people could practically make their own games.

After the second game, Sumo Digital and United Front Games took over development while Media Molecule dedicated themselves to Tearaway and Dreams. Even if you’re not terribly interested in playing more or less ambitious hobbyist creations, there’s no doubt Media Molecule has completely changed the way game platform holders deal with user-generated content.

Would there be a Mario Maker without LittleBigPlanet?
