Sony releases official PlayStation 5 teardown

November 19th and the launch of the PlayStation 5 is drawing ever closer, and that means Sony is finally spilling the beans on the new console's design and technology.

PS5 is a colossal monster

“…we wanted to give you a sneak peek at the console’s interior, so you can take a look at all of the magic happening inside the PS5 that brings out the beautiful games you’ll experience this holiday season,” reads the latest PlayStation.Blog update. They have posted a video that’s over 7 minutes long with an “up-close and personal look”.

Little waste: They started the initial concept for what would become the next major PlayStation back in 2015, “and we’ve spent the past five years designing and developing the console.” They pride themselves on having created a console where there “aren’t any unnecessary components and the design is efficient.”

Quiet launch: Sony shows how they achieved so quiet a machine despite greater demands in power. “After an extensive and complex trial and error process, we were pleased with the end result and I can not wait for our fans to get their hands on the PS5 console and “hear” it for themselves.” PlayStation 5 will launch worldwide by November 19, 2020.

Which Star Wars actor makes a cameo appearance in Dishonored?

a) Billy Dee Williams
b) Harrison Ford
c) Carrie Fisher
d) Peter Mayhew

Dark Souls III almost let you light custom Bonfires

The bonfires in FromSoftware's Souls games are some of the most iconic pieces of game design in the last decade, and Dark Souls III was supposed to let you place your very own bonfires. The game even features animations for plunging a bonfire sword into a body and igniting it, as well as removing it after finishing your business.

Prey is moving over to next-generation consoles, but only on Xbox Series

Another animation shows a two-handed plunging move, as well as an idle prayer animation. The feature was most likely removed because it would upset the classic rhythm of the series and could also be hard to reconcile with the way enemies respawn every time you activate a bonfire.

Collections of Bethesda games coming to Xbox

The ESRB has rated a number of Bethesda Softworks games for the Xbox Series X, which isn't exactly a surprise since Microsoft just bought parent company ZeniMax.

Prey is moving over to next-generation consoles, but only on Xbox Series

First out is the Dishonored & Prey The Arkane Collection, a compilation of no less than four classic immersive first-person shooters with a distinct RPG flavour.

Die Führer Die: Next up is the Wolfenstein Alt History Collection, collecting all four of Machine Games' Wolfenstein games, including last year's Youngblood.

Only for Xbox: Microsoft acquired a lot of goodies when it paid $7.5 billion for all of ZeniMax's IP and studios, and the big question is whether these collections and any of the publisher's hotly anticipated upcoming titles will appear on PlayStation 5.

Resident Evil reboot returns to Raccoon City

Capcom is rebooting the Resident Evil movie franchise, promising that the next movie will remain a bit more faithful to the source material than Paul W.S. Anderson's fun but goofy adaptations.

The main cast members confirmed for the new Resident Evil Movie

Writer and director Johannes Roberts said the first movie will be an origin story set in 1998 that takes place in Raccoon City. The six previous Resident Evil movies departed drastically from the games, but made a healthy $1.2 billion nonetheless.

  • Kaya Scodelario as Claire Redfield
  • Hannah John-Kamen as Jill Valentine
  • Robbie Amell as Chris Redfield
  • Tom Hopper as Albert Wesker
  • Avan Jogia as Leon S. Kennedy
  • Neal McDonough as William Birkin

Faithful adaptation: “With this movie, I really wanted to go back to the original first two games and re-create the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences,” said Roberts.

Remade and rebooted: Capcom has breathed new life into Resident Evil with the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes, and it looks like they are hoping to revive Resident Evil as a major crossmedia franchise.

Which Star Wars actor makes a cameo appearance in Dishonored?

ANSWER: Carrie Fisher!

So THAT’s what would have happened if Leia turned to the dark side...

It's not every day you see Carrie Fisher in a videogame – in fact, she only appeared in three of them. Her perhaps most surprising role was a broadcaster in Dishonored. You'd think a voice performance by Princess Leia herself would be a headline feature, but no – you actually have to go looking for her contribution.

In the sixth mission, Return to the Tower, you can find the Propaganda Officer of Dunwall, who broadcasts the daily news and information. He tells you the non-lethal way to complete the mission, namely playing an incriminating audio recording over Dunwall's PA system. If you decide to whack the propaganda officer, Carrie Fisher takes over his duties and reads the announcements for the rest of the game.
