Paradox delays Bloodlines 2 again, signs up new developer to finish the game

2020 has been a good year for Paradox Interactive: Their financial report says revenue is up 39% while operating profit is up 33%. On the other hand, Vampire: the Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 developer Hardsuit Labs is not doing so great.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 is a bloody mess

Bloodlines 2 was originally scheduled for release last year but was delayed – and has now been delayed again. The project's creative director and lead writer were both fired last summer, indicating that the project was in pretty dire straits, and now Paradox has kicked Hardsuit Labs off the project entirely.

Bad blood: “We have now chosen to postpone the release of the game further, and we will not be launching the game in 2021,” explained CEO Ebba Ljungerud. Paradox has “started a collaboration with a new studio partner to finish work on the game.” No new launch date has been announced, and pre-orders have been closed.

Crusaders: Fortunately, Paradox's other games are still going strong, particularly Crusader Kings III which set new sales and concurrent player records. The same can not be said for Empire of Sin, which Paradox admits being “not satisfied” with.

A lost episode and one giant egg

The Futurama game actually constitutes an episode of the show if you edit all the game’s cutscenes together. It was included as an extra on the second direct-to-DVD film The Beast With The Billion Backs, where it was called Futurama: The Lost Adventure.

Futurama released for PlayStation 2 and Xbox in 2003

Easter eggs are pretty common in games, and Futurama keeps up the tradition by literally hiding a giant Easter egg. If you jiggle the camera just right, you can spot it behind a wall when you explore Professor Farnsworth's Planet Express building.

Sony announces next-gen PlayStation VR

Sony has announced the next generation of PlayStation VR as well as the return of the Play At Home initiative, featuring four months of free games.

PlayStation VR launched October 2016

Right now, playing PSVR games on PlayStation 5 requires a special cable to connect the headset to the new console. Sony were coy about future support of PlayStation VR, which made both players and developers worry about Sony's commitment to the platform.

Lessons learned: “We’re taking what we’ve learned since launching PS VR on PS4 to develop a next-gen VR system that enhances everything from resolution and field of view to tracking and input,” announced Sony’s Hideaki Nishino. The new PlayStation VR will connect via a single cord to “simplify setup and improve ease-of-use”.

Free PSN games: The new PlayStation VR headset will not hit the market this year, but at least you can claim a free copy of Ratchet & Clank for PlayStation 4 from March 1st and hopefully relieve a little bit of lockdown boredom.

Which notable designer was creative director on Watch Dogs: Legion?

ANSWER: Clint Hocking!

How many game devs have had a virtual interview with the BBC?

He’s not quite as beloved as Shigeru Miyamoto or as infamous as John Romero, but Clint Hocking has been a critical component of Ubisoft’s success for over a decade. He worked on both Splinter Cell and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory before breaking new ground with Far Cry 2, and his latest effort is Watch Dogs: Legion.

You have also probably heard a term that he coined: Ludonarrative dissonance, the feeling that a game’s tone and story does not fit the activity of playing it. Hocking invented the term when writing about Bioshock, so now you know who to curse the next time someone abuses the term to explain why they don’t like a game.
