Frostbite makes its debut on Switch

EA remains hell-bent on making DICE’s Frostbite engine the standard technology platform across all its studios, and now the very first Frostbite-powered game is coming to Switch.

It first released in 2019 and arrives on Switch this month

PopCap did the necessary work to get Plants vs Zombies: Battle for Neighbourville running on Switch, and that might be the first step towards many other games finally making the leap to Nintendo's increasingly popular console.

Frostbitten: “…we spent the last year and a half bringing it over to the Switch and making sure that Frostbite worked on the platform because we are the first-ever Frostbite title to be launched on the Nintendo Switch,” producer Melvin Teo told How Games Make Money podcast.

Path cleared: Adapting Frostbite for Switch was a “massive technical undertaking” since the game only ran at 2 or 3 frames per second when the work started. “It was a slideshow, and we had a lot of work to do,” according to Teo. They worked with QLOC SA, who also helped bring Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen to Switch.

Another ooze-less handheld from Sega

Sega’s The Ooze was meant to be a launch title for the Sega Nomad, a handheld version of the Genesis/Mega Drive, but never made it out the door since the console itself was cancelled.

It was a unique concept that reviewed poorly

The idea was hatched by one of the designers on Sonic Spinball, and was later included on the Arcade Legends Sega Genesis 2 and Sonic Mega Collection Plus compilations, as well as the Japanese Sonic Mega Collection.

According to Metacritic, which Harry Potter game has the lowest critic score?

ANSWER: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One!

Even Harry doesn’t wanna be here...

There has been a staggering number of Harry Potter games, and some of them are even pretty good – but Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One is not. Rather than a family-friendly adventure, it is a third-person cover shooter with wands instead of guns and, well, it’s as silly as it sounds.

This slightly bizarre take on everyone’s favorite series of children’s books about a magic school was panned by critics, earning an average score of 37 on Metacritic. To put that in context, the microtransaction-riddled mobile fiasco Hogwarts Mystery has an average of 43, while the iOS port of Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 has an average of 87. How will Hogwarts Legacy fare?
