Pokémon Diamond & Pearl goes Unreal
Enterprising Pokémon fans are working on a reimagining of the DS title Pokémon Diamond & Pearl using Unreal Engine.
It's not exactly a remake, but more of an overhaul of some of the game's environments. So far, the player’s hometown Twinleaf Town and the first wild area Route 201 have been recreated.
Pokémon Unreal: “I tried to go for a mix between Pokémon Sword and Shield and World of Warcraft with a little bit of Breath of the Wild,” the author explained. “This version of Twinleaf Town would definitely NOT run on a Switch.” Meanwhile, rumours claim Gamefreak are already working on remakes of several classic Pokémon games.
Out with the old: Pokémon Sword & Shield was criticized by some fans for scaling back the Pokédex and recycling old assets, and it looks like parts of the fan base are ready for a new take on the series – even though the dreams of a more detailed and realistic open-world Pokémon may not mesh well with the series' core gameplay.
