PlayStation 3 game patches ‘disappearing’

Reports claim that patches and updates are missing for some PlayStation 3 games as Sony winds down PlayStation Store for their older platforms.

PlayStation 3 launched November 2016

Battlefield 4, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, flOw, Payday 2, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, SoulCalibur IV and Just Cause 2 are all missing patches, and even first-party games like Journey, Gran Turismo 5 and Twisted Metal are affected.

Clearance sale: There is no way to get these games to check for and download patches, whether automatically or manually. Sony is planning to close down the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable stores on July 2nd, followed by PlayStation Vita store on August 27th. Around 2,200 games that are only available on the PlayStation Store will disappear from sale.

Memory wipe: It also turns out that there are some uncertainties about the future of the PlayStation 4 platform as well: Should the CMOS be wiped, you will need to connect to Sony's verification servers to renew your license to run even games on disc. There is speculation that this problem is related to the Trophy system, and could be fixed.

Stand-up fight, or another bug hunt?

You can find an Easter egg in Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 Golden during the month of January. If you go harvest bugs, Teddie will say “Hold on there, Sensei! It’s dangerous to go alone! Take me!”

The game came to PC as Persona 4 Golden

That’s a reference to the old hermit in The Legend of Zelda who says “It’s Dangerous to go Alone! Take this!” and offers Link a sword. Chie and Teddie’s voice actors from the original version couldn’t reprise their roles in the updated version, so Erin Fitzgerald and Sam Riegel – who voiced the characters in Persona 4: The Golden Animation – stepped in.

Play Outriders, lose all your stuff

People Can Fly is working hard to fix the so-called inventory wipe bug that can strip every item from an Outriders character.

Outriders is a looter shooter from People Can Fly

“Earlier today we applied additional preventative measures on to our servers to guard against any Inventory Wipes,” according to the Outriders twitter account. “These are reducing the occurrence of this issue, but we are continuing to lock in additional countermeasures.”

Force close: If you fall victim to the bug, you might be able to work around it. You have to “immediately force close the game, then reboot it.” Although it's possible to play Outriders solo, the game still requires you to be connected to Square Enix's servers at all times.

Top priority: “Just a short note to reassure you that resolving the inventory wipe is our top priority and will remain so until fixed. The moment we make a breakthrough we will immediately update you all.” The studio is also working to ensure that lost progress is restored to those affected by the bug.

Which PlayStation 3 exclusive was the first to support Remote Play?

ANSWER: Lair!

Nobody played Lair, but you gotta admit dragon fights are metal as hell

Lair! Lair, everyone! It’s Lair! Don’t remember Lair? Awesome graphics, epic dragon battles, John Debney soundtrack and … half-baked motion controls. Sure, it had its faults, but at least it was the very first game to feature PlayStation Portable remote play!

That’s right, you could stream Lair to your PSP over the internet. Unfortunately, the game was designed around the PlayStation 3 Sixaxis controller, and didn’t translate that well to the PSP’s single weird slidey analogue thing. A double whammy of being both ahead of its time and woefully of its time.
