PlayStation 3 game patches ‘disappearing’
Reports claim that patches and updates are missing for some PlayStation 3 games as Sony winds down PlayStation Store for their older platforms.
Battlefield 4, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, flOw, Payday 2, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, SoulCalibur IV and Just Cause 2 are all missing patches, and even first-party games like Journey, Gran Turismo 5 and Twisted Metal are affected.
Clearance sale: There is no way to get these games to check for and download patches, whether automatically or manually. Sony is planning to close down the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable stores on July 2nd, followed by PlayStation Vita store on August 27th. Around 2,200 games that are only available on the PlayStation Store will disappear from sale.
Memory wipe: It also turns out that there are some uncertainties about the future of the PlayStation 4 platform as well: Should the CMOS be wiped, you will need to connect to Sony's verification servers to renew your license to run even games on disc. There is speculation that this problem is related to the Trophy system, and could be fixed.
