Lara Croft and the missing intro

Crystal Dynamics’ Tomb Raider: Legend was a soft reboot of the Tomb Raider series, widely praised for maintaining the spirit of the original games as well as laying the groundwork for Tomb Raider: Anniversary in 2007.

Sorry Lara, file not found

But there were some minor oversights: The original Xbox release didn’t include the opening cinematic! The developers noticed after they had already passed certification with Microsoft and would have had to delay the release to add the intro and get the game recertified. They decided it wasn’t worth it, and went ahead with the release anyway.

Oculus Quest 2 announced

Facebook has finally announced Oculus Quest 2, which replaces the Quest’s OLED panel with a single 90Hz LCD screen providing a resolution of 1832×1920 per eye. In addition to 50% higher pixel density, the new Snapdragon XR2 CPU makes the Quest 2 a more viable stand-alone platform, while the new Touch controllers feature four times the battery life.

The headset is also 90g lighter than the first version, a reduction of about 10%. Finally, Facebook will no longer make PC-only hardware. All future Oculus headsets will be stand-alone with PC compatibility, although the Rift platform will be supported for the foreseeable future. You can pre-order Oculus Quest 2 for $299, and the headset will launch on October 13th.

Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell VR games will be Oculus exclusives

Ubisoft announced new, VR-exclusive Splinter Cell and Assassin’s Creed games at Facebook Connect. The games are in development at Red Storm, Reflections, Ubisoft Mumbai and Ubisoft Düsseldorf, and will be exclusive to Oculus.

There’s not much information to go on yet, and all the artwork shown during the announcement was old key art. Maybe not exactly what Splinter Cell fans were hoping for, but at least it shows that Sam Fisher is not dead.

Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond launch on both Oculus and Steam

Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond is no longer an Oculus exclusive, and it will launch on Steam at release on December 11th. This is the first Oculus exclusive to appear outside of Facebook’s own platform, and is a way for Facebook to test the waters – although it does not necessarily mean that more Oculus titles are headed to Steam.

What is the name of the opera performed in Final Fantasy 6?

Answer: Maria and Draco!

If you grew up playing Final Fantasy 6 (or Final Fantasy 3, depending on where you live), you’ll remember the opera scene.

I’m the darkness, you’re the starlight

Our hero Celes must impersonate a famous opera singer, and play Maria – a princess forced to marry an invading prince named Ralse – and all the while, she waits for her true love, the hero Draco. It’s pretty straightforward for a story-within-a-story, but Nobuo Uematsu’s stirring compositions makes it memorable.

The story of Maria and Draco has grown so beloved that the opera has actually been staged by Uematsu’s band The Black Mages. It’s one of the most recognizable tracks from the game, and don’t be surprised if it makes old-school fans a bit wet in the eyes.
