PlayStation subscription reveal ‘imminent’
Sony will apparently unveil its answer to Microsoft's Game Pass this week, a tiered subscription service giving access to a library of games.
The service is codenamed Spartacus and will merge PlayStation Now and PlayStation Plus into one service, and presumably add some new features to boot.
- Catalogue of modern PlayStation titles
- Play older PlayStation games via emulation
- Increased emphasis on Sony's streaming platform
- PlayStation Now is also available on PC
Tier Access: The most expensive tier will supposedly give access to extended demos and game streaming. According to Bloomberg, PlayStation is outselling Xbox, but is lagging behind in streaming despite launching the PlayStation Now service over half a decade ago.
No Day One: Game Pass has become the standard-bearer for streaming and game library subscriptions, but Sony is clearly not particularly worried about losing ground to Microsoft: Sony first-party games will not be available on their subscription service on day one.
