Xbox Series Shortage until April, Star Wars In Minecraft

Xbox Series X/S in short supply until April

Xbox CFO Tim Stuart expects Xbox Series X/S shortages to continue until April 2021, and Phil Spencer wants Bethesda to put Xbox first in their future projects.

Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 are suffering retail shortages

Xbox Series X and S consoles will only be sporadically available until April next year, when Microsoft's capacity for producing consoles will finally catch up with demand. “That’s when I expect to see really that demand profile start to be met, which will be really, really great.” said Stuart. Amazon has already warned that they will be unable to meet demand ahead of the holidays.

Xbox first: Xbox big cheese Phil Spencer has talked about his expectations from future Bethesda projects now that the company is part of Xbox Game Studios. They won't be pulling any content from Sony or Nintendo platforms, but the Xbox platform will be the number one priority from now on.

Game Pass: “We want that content, in the long run, to be either first or better or best or pick your differentiated experience, on our platforms,” explained Spencer. “If it shows up best in Game Pass, that’s what we want to see,” suggesting that Microsoft acquired ZeniMax Media to bolster the Xbox Game Pass catalogue.

Always look a gift horse in the mouth

Glover was a Nintendo 64 platformer released near the end of the console’s life that did surprisingly well – but publisher Hasbro was sold on a ‘special deal’ for cartridges that totally decimated their margins.

It took a ‘special’ someone to take this deal

Developer Interactive Studios advised Hasbro to print 150,000 cartridges – but Nintendo offered a great deal on 300,000 cartridges and Hasbro decided to shoot for the stars.

That left them with 150,000 unsold cartridges and no profits – which Hasbro decided to blame on the developer before cancelling a 85% complete sequel.

Sony never considered charging over $70

Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO and President Jim Ryan says Sony never considered raising first-party PlayStation 5 game prices above $70, and that they consider $70 a ‘fair price’.

Jim Ryan finds 70 fair but haven't discussed anything higher

Videogames provide many hours of entertainment, and Ryan believes the higher price for PlayStation 5 games like Demon’s Souls is justified because they offer better bang for your buck than other media.

No higher: “I can say that that report that we were considering higher prices for first party games is categorically false,” he said. Sony will stick with $70 as the top asking price for first-party releases for now, but not everything will necessarily be priced at that.

No worries: Sony is not worried about the amount of storage available on PlayStation 5, since Sony has data from PlayStation 4 usage which suggests it is enough for most users. Ryan also said that Sony will keep investing in their cloud streaming service PlayStation Now and might eventually expand it, but that it is not a major priority yet.

Where does Mortal Kombat fighter Noob Saibot’s name come from?

ANSWER: He’s named after the developers!

Oh crap I'm seeing double, now there's four of them!

Imagine your name was Noob. All the other kids would laugh at you – heck, it would be solid proof that not even your parents take you seriously. Fortunately, Noob Sabit was born long before the term was popularized, and he was actually named after Mortal Kombat developers Ed Boon and John Tobias. They just reversed their last names, and ta-da: Noob Saibot!

There was an urban legend that the Saibot part of the name was dropped after John Tobias quit Midway without giving them the rights to use his name, but that’s not true. According to Mortal Kombat lore, Noob is the Noob we all know and love, while Saibot is the name of his shadow clone. Of course.
